Nursing CE Courses

The initials CE receive a frequent mentioning in the world of nursing. They stand for continuing education. Most licensed professionals in healthcare including nurses, require some form of CE frequently.  There are times when CE is in use interchangeably with these other terms, but they all relate to continuing education. 

CNE: a term meaning continuing nursing education and refers to courses tailored for nursing professionals. 

CEUS:  CEUS refers to continuing education units. They are a reflection of the time that a nurse spends participating in some educational courses or relating approved activities. They are also called continuing education credits. A CEU equals 10 hours of instruction called contact hours. These contact hours refer to the amount of time that an individual spends in a course. A contact hour is equal to a class time of 50-60 minutes. It varies from one state to another.
